Couples Counselling

There are many issues and problems which lead couples to seek help in their relationship - arguing, dealing with an affair, financial pressures, work stress, family pressure, sexual difficulties, depression, alcohol and drug addiction, to name a few. The difference between couple and individual counselling is that the couple's ability to work together on issues can be explored, and ways of moving forward can be found.

Communication is a vital part of any relationship, and can also be useful to look at with a counsellor. Couples who have been to counselling generally benefit from the clarity it gives to their thoughts and the opportunity it gives to explore emotions between partners in a safe, undisturbed environment.

The role of the counsellor is not to tell the clients what to do, or even advise them, but to help the couple to do this for themselves. As the couple learns more about each other and themselves, the ways forward become clearer.

It is not possible to predct how many or few sessions any given couple will need, but we recommend 6 sessions as a suitable length to commit to, then review whether more are needed.
